{"id":3133,"date":"2024-05-02T23:59:24","date_gmt":"2024-05-02T23:59:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gilm.pt\/7th-national-meeting-on-media-education-on-may-9-2024-registration-now-open\/"},"modified":"2024-05-02T23:59:36","modified_gmt":"2024-05-02T23:59:36","slug":"7th-national-meeting-on-media-education-on-may-9-2024-registration-now-open","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gilm.pt\/en\/7th-national-meeting-on-media-education-on-may-9-2024-registration-now-open\/","title":{"rendered":"7th National Meeting on Media Education on May 9, 2024 &#8211; Registration now open!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Next day  <strong>May 9, 2024<\/strong> &#8211; the final day of Media Week and Europe Day &#8211; will see the  <strong>7th National Meeting on Media Education<\/strong>, with the theme &#8220;<strong>Young people, social networks, <s>disinformation<\/s>and <s>intolerance<\/s><\/strong>&#8220;, an initiative of the Directorate-General for Education in partnership with the  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gilm.pt\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Grupo Informal de Literacia Medi\u00e1tica<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsf.pt\/2141637431\/democracia-para-que-te-quero-debate-media-e-democracia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TSF R\u00e1dio Not\u00edcias,<\/a> Jornal P\u00daBLICO and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.publico.pt\/publico-na-escola\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">P\u00daBLICO na Escola<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.escolasbarquinha.pt\/site\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Agrupamento Escolas Vila Nova da Barquinha<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/cfa23.pt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Centro de Forma\u00e7\u00e3o A23<\/a>.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The meeting will have a hybrid format, <em>online <\/em>(DGE zoom platform) and face-to-face (Auditorium of the D. Maria II School of Vila Nova da Barquinha).<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following on from meetings held in previous years, this year&#8217;s event calls on young people and the school community to reflect on the phenomena of disinformation and intolerance, as they represent complex and interconnected challenges for democracy in Europe and around the world.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tackling all these challenges requires a multifaceted approach that involves strengthening media literacy, promoting intercultural and interfaith dialogue, combating discrimination and defending fundamental democratic values such as freedom of expression, equality and the rule of law. Only through coordinated and collaborative efforts can we hope to mitigate the negative effects of these phenomena and protect the health of our democracies.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As part of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gilm.pt\/7diascomosmedia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the 12th edition of Operation &#8220;7 Days with the Media&#8221;,<\/a> whose theme is &#8221; <s>Hate<\/s> Speech and Peace in Times of War&#8221;, the National Meeting on Media Education has the following objectives:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Develop awareness among school-age audiences of the risks of excessive use of social networks as sources of information<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Raising young people&#8217;s awareness of the importance of journalism and getting information from journalistic sources<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Awareness of the need to develop skills aimed at preventing the adoption of intolerance-identifying behaviors  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Acquire knowledge of tools to identify disinformation content<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contextualize disinformation as a threat to democracy and Europe&#8217;s founding values<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This meeting is aimed at students and teachers from different levels of education who are involved or interested in the subject.
