The Informal Group on Media Literacy (GILM) recognizes the right of citizens to the protection of their personal data, ensuring that all data subjects, who entrust it with the processing of their data, are aware of the purpose and processing of the information provided, as well as their rights in this regard and how to exercise them, under the terms and in accordance with the provisions of Article 8(1) of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union (“Charter”), Article 16(1) of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU), as amended.º1, of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU), of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (EU) 2016/679 of April 27, 2016, as amended on May 23, 2018, of Law no. 58/2019 of August 8, which ensures the implementation of the GDPR in the national legal order, of Law no. 59/2019 of August 8, 2019, which ensures the implementation of the GDPR in the national legal order.º59/2019 of August 8 approving the rules on the processing of personal data for the purposes of the prevention, detection, investigation or prosecution of criminal offenses or the execution of criminal penalties, and Article 35 of the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic.

Personal data

Personal data is information relating to a natural person who is identified or identifiable, directly or indirectly, for example, by name, photograph, identification number, or any other element of identity provided for in current legislation.

The entity responsible for collecting and processing the data is GILM, taking into account the nature, scope, context and purposes of the data processing, as well as the risks to the rights and freedoms of natural persons, in accordance with the GDPR.

Collection of personal data

GILM is committed to protecting the privacy of the users of its services, and to this end has taken care to develop/use technology that offers the best guarantees of security and privacy.

Most of the time, users are given the opportunity to browse the GILM website without having to provide any personal data. Sometimes, however, some essential information is collected and stored in order to provide and access services.

Processing of personal data

GILM respects your right to privacy and does not collect personal information unless you voluntarily provide it to us by filling in a form or other legitimate means. By making your personal data available to GILM, you acknowledge and consent to it being processed in accordance with this privacy and personal data processing policy, with the guarantee that it will only be used for the purposes described at the time of collection.

Whenever personal data is collected by GILM, the transfer of which depends on the consent of the data subject, information will be provided on the specific, specific, explicit and legitimate purposes of the collection.

If the processing of personal data for a purpose other than that initially described is justified, we will always ask for explicit consent, except in cases where the processing is lawful without consent, in accordance with the legislation in force.

Lawfulness of processing personal data

In accordance with current legislation on the protection of personal data, GILM may also lawfully process your personal data in specific situations, such as when:

  1. The processing is necessary for the performance of a contract to which the data subject is a party, or for the taking of pre-contractual steps at the request of the data subject;
  2. Processing is necessary for the fulfillment of GILM’s legal obligations;
  3. Processing is necessary for the protection of the vital interests of the data subject or another natural person;
  4. Processing is necessary for archiving purposes in the public interest, scientific or historical research, or statistical purposes, under the terms of the GDPR.

Confidentiality

The information collected is for the use of GILM, in accordance with the purposes indicated at the time of collection or to comply with legal obligations, and no data is transferred outside the sphere of the members that make up GILM.

The information collected will be treated confidentially and may be accessed by a restricted number of people on a need-to-know basis.

Protection of personal information

GILM will apply the appropriate and necessary technical and organizational measures to protect the information stored in the system against access, use, alteration or destruction of personal information.

Personal data will be kept for the minimum period of time necessary for the specific purposes of the processing that led to its collection or subsequent processing, in compliance with current legislation.

Data subjects’ rights

At any time, the holder of personal data has the right to request access to it, as well as to request that it be rectified or deleted. erasureThe right to object to processing, to withdraw consent and to exercise other rights provided for by law, within the limits of current legislation.

If you withdraw your consent, this does not compromise the lawfulness of the data processing carried out on the basis of your prior consent.

The holder of personal data also has the right to be notified in the event of a personal data breach, in accordance with and under the terms of the GDPR.

Applicability

Generally speaking, this privacy and personal data processing policy applies to all services provided by GILM, without prejudice to other policies, agreements and legislation applicable in more specific contexts of personal data collection and processing.

Changes to this policy

GILM may change its privacy and personal data processing policy whenever technically or legally justified.

The changes apply to new processing of personal data, and if they have an impact on the processing of personal data that has already been collected, GILM will inform the data subject of these changes so that they can give their explicit consent or assert their right to object or to erasure.

Collection of technical / anonymous information

This site collects anonymous information about its visitors, which is provided by browsers and web servers, such as browser type, language preferences, site of origin, pages visited, duration of visit(s), date and time of each request, search terms, among others. No information is intentionally collected that can be used to identify visitors to the site. This information is collected in order to understand how our users use the site, with the aim of improving the quality and usefulness of the services we provide.

Notwithstanding the anonymous information collected and processed on our Web Analytics platform, technical information about your visit(s) may be collected by the technological infrastructure that supports the system. GILM does not share this information with third parties, without prejudice to the legal requirements imposed by current legislation (i.e. this information may be shared with the competent public authorities, in compliance with Portuguese and European legislation).

Use of cookies

When you use this site we store cookies (small files with information) on your access device, which allow us, for example, to understand whether or not you want to contribute anonymous information to our Web Analytics platform, whether or not you are logged in to the site, among others.

In our implementation, both technical and analysis cookies do not contain personal data and are transferred securely. With regard to third-party cookies, these are not managed by our system and may therefore have their own cookie and privacy policy, outside the scope of GILM’s policy.
